DESERTEC PROGRESSING WITH PLANS FOR SOLAR PROJECT IN MOROCCO

The Desertec Foundation, an international collaboration between politicians, companies and scientists founded to develop renewable energy sources, will continue assisting the Moroccan government in setting up the solar energy project in that country.
This in spite of the decission taken bij Siemens and Bosch earlier this year to leave the initiative due to the economical circumstances worldwide.

The Desertec Foundation and the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ADEREE) have signed a memorandum
to strengthen the current plans for the construction of a huge range of solar power plants in northern Morocco . The plant will generate electricity for the domestic market and for Europe.

The Desertec Foundation announced  three years ago to build concentrated solar power plants in North Africa
. The Moroccan government and the DESERTEC Foundation have joined forces to create renewable energy for North Africa and Europe.

The new agreement strengthens existing agreements and helps the solar power projects to accelerated to completion. The country has already started building a 500MW power plant in the city of Ouarzazate.

This puts Morocco in a position to grow and expand its leading position in this market.
"Morocco, with this project is not only a visionar in the region, but also a successful pioneer in the global transition to renewable energy, in which ADEREE plays an important role," says Director of the Desertec Foundation, Dr. Thiemo Gropp.
